Interlude (from "The Scarlet Band and Other Poems")
Born and
raised on the far Southside of Chicago known to most people as the Wild 100’s. Altgeled Gardens & the Golden Gate
Community Projects is where Erik Kane spent his childhood. During that time Erik Kane grew up without the support of his mother
and father. Erik’s grandmothers and other close relatives were responsible for filling the empty void left by his parents.
Erik lived a secluded life and never had an interest in befriending many people. During many lonely days Erik confided in
music and hair styling to escape from the grasp of his lonely seclusion.
Many artists have inspired Erik Kane to focus
seriously on his craft but it was the styles and images of Jay-Z, Lil Kim, Biggie Smalls, and Foxy Brown that has caused him
to pursue a career in music. In the winter season of 1999 Erik Kane lost a very special cousin who was more like his sister.
During this episode Erik turned back to music. Miraculously, Erik found that he possessed one of the missing links to his
favorite genre of music which is hip hop. Instead of following the paths of many other artists he decided to go his own way
"against the grain." Following another session of isolation, Erik Kane decided add his own twist to Alternative Hip Hop which
is an urban style of music designed to attract those who want to hear more than the ordinary typical acts. Erik Kane chose
to conjure up A.H.H., because he wants to address a subject that has been looked down on for years.
Homosexuality is
an insightful topic that many people are afraid to discuss and would rather sweep under the carpet, however, it does exist.
Erik Kane is here to let listeners know that times have changed and talks about the everyday struggle of being a black homosexual
male. He touches up on growing and living in a world filled with thousands of homophobic people, relationships, sex, and most
importantly being different.
Erik Kane stands firm on his beliefs. He speaks the truth, and is considerate about the
well being of the world. He is not afraid of being different and is passionate to his music but most of all Erik Kane is real. |
